More on the UK vs. UCLA Game
After studying the box score and reflecting on the game here are some positives and negatives on each player:
Perry:
Positives = 5 reb. is about all I can find.
Negatives = 0 pts.; 0-5 FG; no FT's; has to be more consistent, and get 7-10 pts. a game.
Stevenson:
Positives = 10 pts.; 3-3 FG; 4-6 FT
Negatives = Has to learn to play defense other than just blocking shots.
Morris:
Positives = 11 pts.; ran the court better; becoming a consistent scorer.
Negatives = Defense; just 4 reb.
Bradley:
Positives = Came back in 2nd half to play much better (until the end).
Negatives = Gets beaten off the dribble too often; turnovers (but his attitude will help him bounce back).
Crawford:
Positives = 16 pts.; 3-6 on 3's; 5 ast.
Negatives = Come out of the gate looking for others, not just trying to score.
Porter:
Positives = 5 pts. in 12 min.; 3 reb.; played some good defense.
Negatives = ?
Jasper:
Positives = 12 pts.; 9 reb; 4 ast; 3 stl; 8-12 FT's; Took over the game.
Negatives = If he develops an outside shot, watch out.
Orbzut:
Positives = 0 fouls.
Negatives = 0 everything else, but played just 2 minutes, this wasn't his kind of game.
Meeks:
Positives: Very aggressive on offense.
Negatives: Defense; Look for others on offense.
Thomas:
Positives: Might be our best on ball defender; seems more confident.
Negatives: 2 pts, 2 reb, interior defense sometimes in question.
Overall:
Positives: 14 asts. on 22 FG; Continue to shoot 3's well (40%); 18-25 FT - Free throw shooting will help us win games & we get there alot more often; fought back and never gave up.
Negatives: Defense - UCLA shot just 45%, but they were 59% on 2's; Way to many wide open layups inside; 16 TOs.;
Tomorrow's game vs. Memphis is huge. A win would mean that we beat a top 20 team and play with the number 5 team. A loss would put us at 3-2, with a 1-2 trip to Maui. I think that we are very capable of beating Memphis, but they are very athletic, and can get hot from outside. If they're not making 3's, UK should win pretty easily. The defense has got to be tough, and not give up so many easy baskets.
